What We Found Inside the Unit
Once we opened up the indoor unit, it was clear why airflow had dropped off. The evaporator coil was caked in a thick layer of dust and grime, almost matting across the fins. The blower wheel behind it was in the same shape, with buildup coating every blade. This kind of buildup doesn’t happen overnight — it’s the result of years of normal use without a deep cleaning, and it restricts airflow, makes the system work harder, and can affect the air quality inside the house.
The Deep Clean
Our technician Islam spent about two hours on this visit, working through a full Mitsubishi mini split maintenance and cleaning. We protected the surrounding wall and ceiling, then rinsed the coil and blower wheel thoroughly, working the grime out fin by fin and blade by blade. We also cleaned an additional indoor unit on the same visit, since dust and buildup tend to show up on every head connected to a ductless mini split system over time, not just the one giving obvious symptoms.
By the time we finished, the coil and blower wheel were clean and clear, airflow was back to where it should be, and the system’s refrigerant readings matched what we’d expect from a healthy Mitsubishi mini split.
