ERV / HRV Ventilation
ERV & HRV Ventilation Installation in San Mateo County
Trusted ERV / HRV Ventilation across the Bay Area
Modern, well-sealed homes hold in stale air, odors, CO2 and moisture. An ERV (Energy Recovery Ventilator) or HRV (Heat Recovery Ventilator) continuously swaps stale indoor air for fresh outdoor air - while recovering the energy you already paid for. Nur HVAC designs and installs balanced ERV/HRV ventilation across San Mateo County.

Fresh air without throwing away your energy
An ERV/HRV brings in fresh outdoor air and exhausts stale indoor air through a heat-exchange core, transferring heat (and, with an ERV, moisture) between the two streams. You get continuous fresh air with minimal heating or cooling penalty - exactly what a tight, efficient home needs. We install Panasonic and other proven systems, properly ducted and balanced.
Why add an ERV or HRV
What you get with Nur HVAC:
- Continuous fresh air that removes odors, CO2, VOCs and excess humidity
- Energy recovery so ventilation doesn't spike your heating and cooling bills
- Better sleep, focus and comfort in airtight modern and remodeled homes
- Quiet, balanced operation engineered for your home's layout
ERV vs HRV - we'll spec the right one
ERVs transfer both heat and moisture and suit most Bay Area homes; HRVs transfer heat only and suit specific cases. We assess your home's tightness, climate and humidity, then design, install and balance the right system - backed by our 100% money-back guarantee.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between an ERV and an HRV?
Both swap stale indoor air for fresh outdoor air through a heat-exchange core. An HRV transfers heat only; an ERV transfers both heat and moisture, which helps manage humidity. For most San Mateo County homes we recommend an ERV - but we assess your home before specifying either.
Will an ERV/HRV make my energy bills go up?
Far less than opening windows. The heat-exchange core recovers most of the energy from the air being exhausted, so you get continuous fresh air with only a small energy cost - much more efficient than uncontrolled ventilation.
Do I need ventilation if my home is older and a bit drafty?
Possibly less than a tight new build, but drafts are uncontrolled and uneven. A balanced ERV/HRV gives consistent, filtered fresh air everywhere - we'll tell you honestly whether your home will benefit.

“Our 25+ years old gas furnace ran into issues and we could have just replaced the part and limped along for a while. We decided to do a like-for-like replacement...we got a quote (I won't mention the name of the vendor) and got a quote for a Bryant a/c/ gas furnace (lower than the Carrier a/c that we had) and the quote was pretty high ~ $25K and NO REBATES (this person did not even offer us the option of a heat pump). Our son suggested going to Yelp to get a project quote given we were spending so much money - from the 8 companies we talked to we zeroed in on Irbis and NUR and both companies were solid. Our main reason for going with NUR were the following : 1) With NUR we dealt directly with the Owner not a sales team : David - he is a no-nonsense, straight shooter who is extremely knowledgeable about all things HVAC. 2) Offered the right spec and quality of machine - He told us we should go with the Heat Pump (replace gas furnace) given we had solar and he offered us the complex split zoning for our single family house. Upgraded our carrier a/c to a Mitsubishi Heat Pump (see picture) 3) Reasonable Quote, High Quality work - He offered us an extremely reasonable quote for a high end heat pump, his technicians were top notch. Igor and Mikhail were brilliant - they spent a week at our place and were so polite, skilled and unobtrusive. They cleaned up after themselves every single day that they came in. 4) Helped me get the $3500 rebate from Peninsula Clean Energy 5) After install customer service is brilliant. I am doing this review after a month but these guys are beyond amazing when it comes to responsiveness to any questions or concerns. If I do any replacement of my HVAC and water heaters in the future - I will not look beyond NUR - they have my business for life”

“We used Nur HVAC to replace gas furnace with a heat pump inverter, replace the aging duct work and gas water heater with a heat pump water heater, all in the same contract. Our project manager, Arthur was on-time for the scoping appointment. He took time to understand our needs, investigated the attic, ducts and all the existing equipment, before making any recommendations. He designed the optimal system for our house to be cost effective, provide highest comfort and be energy efficient. He was not pushy and was upfront about the ballpark estimates and timeline. He also walked us thru the various rebates that are available for the replacements from local utilities. Arthur's quote was very competitive, in fact better than those quoted to us by Costco referred contractors. Nur's installation crew - Eldar, Bhakridin, were very professional and thorough. They didn't rush the job and left the job site clean and clutter free each day. They accommodated our requests for placing the electrical wires and conduits so they are not in the way. All the equipment both indoor and outdoor were cleanly laid out, secured and wiped down before hand off. Always smiling and respectful, one of the best installation crew we have had. As a white glove contractor they took care of all the permitting, inspection paperwork w/ the city, all the paper work for us to receive the rebates. They even completed the warranty registration with the manufacturers for all the equipment! We would highly recommend Arthur and Nur HVAC to anyone in the Bay Area needing heating and cooling solutions. We would definitely be going back to them ourselves when the need arises.”

“These guys are the best. After checking around, we went with NUR for a new Carrier furnace and a/c installation. Their pricing was fair, no surprises, and the quality of the installation was excellent. Even during the permit process the town inspector commented on how good everything looked. Here is the big thing: Everyone I dealt with at NUR was friendly, courteous, and professional. There were a couple of glitches along the way which happens with a project like this, but NUR was always responsive and took care of things promptly. I couldn't ask for more and can highly recommend.”

“Nobody likes a broken HVAC component, but Nur is always there to help. They’ve helped me install a minisplit, diagnose a leak & recharge AC, and fix the filtration of air through the house. Ilias and Islam are both very capable and helpful, highly recommend.”
“I had a great experience all around with Nur HVAC. Scheduling with Regina was a breeze, and Adlan, our technician, was fantastic. Adlan quickly diagnosed and fixed an issue with our 20 year old AC unit on the spot without trying to upsell anything. Beyond the quick repair, he took the time to walk me through his process for diagnosing/assessing our AC system as well as the steps for a routine furnace maintenance - I learned a lot along the way. Highly recommend Nur HVAC, and especially Adlan!”
“Our old A/C unit went out (dramatically spewing coolant everywhere) in the middle of summer. We contacted Nur HVAC and got them to come take a look at the situation. They recommended replacing our old furnace with a new heat pump along with the new A/C unit. It took a few weeks for a permit, but then they scheduled the job promptly. It was very labor intensive...removing the old equipment, building a new platform with plywood, installing everything. It took 3 full days, but they did an excellent job and cleaned everything up completely when they were finished. The system looks and works so much better now. Workers were polite and respectful. Would definitely recommend.”
“NUR HVAC just completed installation of a Mitsubishi heat pump system in my San Francisco home, replacing a 38-year-old Lennox gas furnace. I couldn't be more pleased with the quality of the work and the professionalism shown during the process. In particular, I wanted to commend Artur and Vladimir, the NUR technicians who did the beautiful install. Both guys were extremely polite and respectful, for example, putting on shoe covers whenever they entered the house. Artur was also very fastidious in running the ancillary electrical feeds to my main service panel. What a neat job! Fedor, who came to do the initial assessment, was a great resource and answered all my questions regarding scheduling, warranty, maintenance, etc. He offered several options during the bidding process without any pressure to come to a quick decision or attempts at “upselling.” In the end, their quote was very competitive, and fair given the quality of the work and the final product. Being a Mitsubishi Diamond Contractor, NUR was able to offer a 12-year warranty on parts and labor. The bottom line is NUR is a top quality outfit and it was easy to see that they take great pride in their work and genuinely care about their customers. NUR may be the best contractor I’ve ever used. Definitely, 5-Star!”
“I hired Nur HVAC for a major upgrade to my home's system, and they did an incredible job. The project involved converting my entire house from a gas heat pump to a new all-electric Mitsubishi system, and they also installed a split unit in my garage. Their prices were very reasonable, but what truly stood out was the professional quality of the installation. The team performed a very careful evaluation of all my existing ducts and vents to ensure the new system was installed for optimal performance. The work speaks for itself. It's been almost two months since the installation, and everything is working top-notch. I'm super happy I chose Nur HVAC and highly recommend them.”
“This is my second experience with these awesome people. Nur HVAC installed a heat pump a year ago and I remembered how professional they were. So when my water heater broke few weeks ago I called them again. Fedor called me and came over the same day to personally inspect my setup. He gave me three options for my water heating needs and coached me through the selection process based on my current and future needs. This was Monday and by Wednesday I had everything fixed! As always, professional and courteous service. While Fedor was here I got to talk to him about options for more even heating and cooling distribution in my house. Even though it was not related to problem at hand, he patiently explained to me what my options were and then turned me onto a new solution using smart vents. This ended up being 10x cheaper than dual zoning and works a 100 times better. This guy is so smart, he must have a Ph.D. in HVAC!!! Thank you Fedor and I can’t recommend this team highly enough!!!”
“I am extremely pleased with my new Mitsubishi heat pump installed by Nur HVAC. Everyone in California should use a heat pump due to the high cost of electricity, and Nur HVAC should be your installer. My installation was performed in two parts: the upstairs in Mar 2025, then downstairs in May 2026. I commend Nur HVAC for their patience during this protracted and difficult installation. After an initial assessment to determine my needs, the team arrived to plan the installation of the upstairs hardware. They asked many questions to figure it out. It only took 5 days for my on-site representatives Konstantin and Maxim to finish the work, which I felt was clean and neat; the electrical, refrigerant, and condensate lines blended into the existing arrangement seamlessly. By the end of day 5, I had hot and cold air at the touch of a button. About a year later, my remodeling had progressed enough for the installation of the downstairs units. Sadly, other contractors inadvertently cut the 220V supply line to the 2nd floor units. And while they meant well, these other contractors totally messed up the 220V supply line for the 1st floor units, running it to the 2nd floor breaker box instead! Maxim and Konstantin went above and beyond the call of duty, doing jobs that weren't theirs. They re-routed the 1st floor electrical line to the 1st floor breaker box, and got everything working. They were quick to suggest best placement of the indoor units. Additionally, they figured out a far better arrangement of the outdoor unit and refrigerant lines. The installation was more concealed and neat afterwards.”
“air and honest contractors are hard to come by these days, but NurHVAC absolutely fits that description. I was referred to them by a friend, and I'm glad I took the recommendation. We needed to replace our old gas water heater, which was nearing 15 years old. From start to finish, their communication was excellent. They were honest, transparent, and took the time to answer every question I had. They walked me through the pros and cons of each option without any pressure and even guided me through the rebate process, which made everything much easier. What really stood out was their commitment to customer service. The installer stayed until 9:00 PM to make sure everything was working properly so we wouldn't have to spend the night without hot water. He absolutely didn't have to do that, but it showed how much he genuinely cared about doing the job right. When the work was finished, he cleaned everything up so well that you wouldn't have known a major project had taken place in my garage. If you're looking for a company that's honest, knowledgeable, and truly goes above and beyond for its customers, I can't recommend NurHVAC highly enough.”
“Very pleased with their heat pump installation. I got three quotes and theirs was just a little lower than the others, but I chose them because they explained everything very well. They did not try to upsell like the other companies, which I appreciated. Installation went quickly and everyone was very pleasant. Photo with Arthur and our heat pump. Update, year and a half later: everything is working well. They helped me apply for the rebate after it was installed. I asked if I should do maintenance and they showed me what kind of filter to get. David came by and checked everything over (2nd photo) and didn't even charge because nothing was needed beyond changing the filter.”
