Mitsubishi 3-Ton Heat Pump Installation in Santa Clara

This heat pump installation in Santa Clara was one of those jobs where almost everything is new: a Mitsubishi 3-ton heat pump outside, a matching air handler in the attic, new ductwork with eight supply vents and one return, and a full electrical system to power it all. Our crew spent about nine hours on site and left the homeowners with a complete, quiet, all-electric system for both heating and cooling.

Mitsubishi 3-Ton Heat Pump Installation in Santa Clara

The air handler in the attic

The indoor side of the system lives in the attic. We set the Mitsubishi air handler horizontally on a drain pan, so if water ever collects it stays in the pan instead of reaching the ceiling below. The condensate runs out through white PVC with a trap and a vent, and you can see two small overflow switches at the drain connections. The insulated refrigerant lines come down from above and go straight into the cabinet, neatly tied together.

We also took care of the space around the unit. Plywood decking sits in front of the air handler and a plywood path runs across the insulation to it, so whoever comes up for service later has somewhere solid to kneel and walk instead of stepping between joists.

New ductwork, eight vents and a return

A new heat pump only works as well as the ducts behind it, so this job included new ductwork: eight supply vents and one return. The insulated flex duct is hung from the rafters on straps rather than lying on the attic floor, which keeps the runs smooth and helps the air get where it is supposed to go. The duct connects to an insulated plenum at the air handler.

Electrical and the outdoor unit

The job description says «full electrical system,» and that is exactly what it was. The air handler got its own disconnect mounted on a board at the rafters, with the wiring run in flexible conduit. Outside, the heat pump has a wall-mounted disconnect next to it, and we added a surge protective device to help guard the electronics in the new equipment against power spikes.

The Mitsubishi outdoor unit sits on a concrete pad along the side of the house, clear of the downspout and close to the wall. With two fans in a tall cabinet, it takes up little ground space, which matters on the narrow side yards so common around here.

The job also went through a city permit, and the homeowners now have a maintenance visit included, so we will be back to check on everything down the road.

If you are thinking about moving to a heat pump, here is more about how we approach heat pump installation for homes across the Peninsula and South Bay. We are always happy to come out, look at your attic and ducts, and talk through what would fit your home.

“NUR installed a ductless multi-zone Mitsubishi mini-split system for us this spring after our 100-year-old lovely monster of a gas boiler died. It's so far out of code that no one will repair it, and we were tired of being cold! The new system is electric with a heat pump on the roof, and it includes AC for the six days a year when my usually foggy neighborhood needs it. We chose NUR because they offered competitive prices and clear communication, and they were able to place the indoor units exactly where we wanted them. The installation took just a couple of days and they were kind and efficient. If you are looking to get a job like this done, you should give them a call.”

“NUR HVAC just completed installation of a Mitsubishi heat pump system in my San Francisco home, replacing a 38-year-old Lennox gas furnace. I couldn't be more pleased with the quality of the work and the professionalism shown during the process. In particular, I wanted to commend Artur and Vladimir, the NUR technicians who did the beautiful install. Both guys were extremely polite and respectful, for example, putting on shoe covers whenever they entered the house. Artur was also very fastidious in running the ancillary electrical feeds to my main service panel. What a neat job! Fedor, who came to do the initial assessment, was a great resource and answered all my questions regarding scheduling, warranty, maintenance, etc. He offered several options during the bidding process without any pressure to come to a quick decision or attempts at "upselling." In the end, their quote was very competitive, and fair given the quality of the work and the final product. Being a Mitsubishi Diamond Contractor, NUR was able to offer a 12-year warranty on parts and labor. The bottom line is NUR is a top-quality outfit and it was easy to see that they take great pride in their work and genuinely care about their customers. NUR may be the best contractor I've ever used. Definitely, 5-Star!”

“This is the 2nd project I've done with NUR, and similar to the first time, I am a happy customer. From start to finish, NUR (in particular technician, Adlan) is completely professional. They are diligent and timely with their responses and scheduling. Adlan came out and diagnosed our 20 year old A/C system and was able to revive it, but prepared us with options for the future should the system go out again. He was extremely thorough in explaining these in layman terms. HVAC systems will always need maintenance and repairs, that's a given. However, I know that I have an honest, value-added, and well-run company to work with in NUR. Highly recommended!”

“We used Nur HVAC to replace gas furnace with a heat pump inverter, replace the aging duct work and gas water heater with a heat pump water heater, all in the same contract. Our project manager, Arthur was on-time for the scoping appointment. He took time to understand our needs, investigated the attic, ducts and all the existing equipment, before making any recommendations. He designed the optimal system for our house to be cost effective, provide highest comfort and be energy efficient. He was not pushy and was upfront about the ballpark estimates and timeline. He also walked us thru the various rebates that are available for the replacements from local utilities. Arthur’s quote was very competitive, in fact better than those quoted to us by Costco referred contractors. Nur’s installation crew - Eldar, Bhakridin, were very professional and thorough. They didn’t rush the job and left the job site clean and clutter free each day. They accommodated our requests for placing the electrical wires and conduits so they are not in the way. All the equipment both indoor and outdoor were cleanly laid out, secured and wiped down before hand off. Always smiling and respectful, one of the best installation crew we have had. As a white glove contractor they took care of all the permitting, inspection paperwork w/ the city, all the paper work for us to receive the rebates. They even completed the warranty registration with the manufacturers for all the equipment! We would highly recommend Arthur and Nur HVAC to anyone in the Bay Area needing heating and cooling solutions. We would definitely be going back to them ourselves when the need arises.”

“Our old A/C unit went out (dramatically spewing coolant everywhere) in the middle of summer. We contacted Nur HVAC and got them to come take a look at the situation. They recommended replacing our old furnace with a new heat pump along with the new A/C unit. It took a few weeks for a permit, but then they scheduled the job promptly. It was very labor intensive...removing the old equipment, building a new platform with plywood, installing everything. It took 3 full days, but they did an excellent job and cleaned everything up completely when they were finished. The system looks and works so much better now. Workers were polite and respectful. Would definitely recommend.”

“I am extremely pleased with my new Mitsubishi heat pump installed by Nur HVAC. Everyone in California should use a heat pump due to the high cost of electricity, and Nur HVAC should be your installer. My installation was performed in two parts: the upstairs in Mar 2025, then downstairs in May 2026. I commend Nur HVAC for their patience during this protracted and difficult installation. After an initial assessment to determine my needs, the team arrived to plan the installation of the upstairs hardware. They asked many questions to figure it out. It only took 5 days for my on-site representatives Konstantin and Maxim to finish the work, which I felt was clean and neat; the electrical, refrigerant, and condensate lines blended into the existing arrangement seamlessly. By the end of day 5, I had hot and cold air at the touch of a button. About a year later, my remodeling had progressed enough for the installation of the downstairs units. Sadly, other contractors inadvertently cut the 220V supply line to the 2nd floor units. And while they meant well, these other contractors totally messed up the 220V supply line for the 1st floor units, running it to the 2nd floor breaker box instead! Maxim and Konstantin went above and beyond the call of duty, doing jobs that weren't theirs. They re-routed the 1st floor electrical line to the 1st floor breaker box, and got everything working. They were quick to suggest best placement of the indoor units. Additionally, they figured out a far better arrangement of the outdoor unit and refrigerant lines. The installation was more concealed and neat afterwards.”

“This is my second experience with these awesome people. Nur HVAC installed a heat pump a year ago and I remembered how professional they were. So when my water heater broke few weeks ago I called them again. Fedor called me and came over the same day to personally inspect my setup. He gave me three options for my water heating needs and coached me through the selection process based on my current and future needs. This was Monday and by Wednesday I had everything fixed! As always, professional and courteous service. While Fedor was here I got to talk to him about options for more even heating and cooling distribution in my house. Even though it was not related to problem at hand, he patiently explained to me what my options were and then turned me onto a new solution using smart vents. This ended up being 10x cheaper than dual zoning and works a 100 times better. This guy is so smart, he must have a Ph.D. in HVAC!!! Thank you Fedor and I can’t recommend this team highly enough!!!”

“Nur installed and serviced our heat pump since the beginning of 2025. Quality of work, including the air handling, heat pump, ductwork, piping and electrical work was excellent. There were communication issues with the field crew but were ultimately resolved. Only with the recent warmer weather I used the cooling stage (instead of the heating) and came across a problem where it wasn’t cooling fast enough. Artur A. came back, checked all the vents and adjusted the air handling speed so it cools down much faster. Nur was responsive and fairly quick to correct our concerns. They were also quick to return and service our cooling issue. Thank you David and Artur A.”

“I had a great experience all around with Nur HVAC. Scheduling with Regina was a breeze, and Adlan, our technician, was fantastic. Adlan quickly diagnosed and fixed an issue with our 20 year old AC unit on the spot without trying to upsell anything. Beyond the quick repair, he took the time to walk me through his process for diagnosing/assessing our AC system as well as the steps for a routine furnace maintenance - I learned a lot along the way. Highly recommend Nur HVAC, and especially Adlan!”

“After 18 years our Air Conditioning System failed. We, of course, called Nur HVAC and were glad to see Islam again. He rapidly diagnosed that the AC compressor failed and had to be replaced. However, the AC system was so old that the compressor only had a 1 year warranty and the refrigerant in use 18 years ago is only available for legacy repairs (This is to protect the Ozone layer). We could have replaced the AC system, but the heating system was equally old and likely to fail. The cost to move to a full all electric HVAC system was a few dollars more than just replacing the AC system and it would eliminate our use of gas for heating and take advantage of the recently installed Solar Panels. So the house has a new fully electric HVAC system installed by Nur HVAC. Islam came and took the measurements so the system could be ordered and priced. Soon Alex and the installation team arrived to install the system. The quality of the installation and the care Alex and team took during the custom wiring, new refrigerant lines, new moisture drains, new thermostats, system setup and calibration was outstanding. Alex made sure that the air flow for both heating and cooling was measured and far better than the previous systems. Alex made sure to keep us informed as progress was being made and they managed to keep the house clean during the install. Again Nur HVAC exceeded expectations with a very high quality install at a fair price. A project of this size had a few bumps but this appeared to have been done to provide a quality install with attention to detail. This company has superb knowledgeable professionals working for it from service to installation. I highly recommend Nur HVAC.”

“air and honest contractors are hard to come by these days, but NurHVAC absolutely fits that description. I was referred to them by a friend, and I'm glad I took the recommendation. We needed to replace our old gas water heater, which was nearing 15 years old. From start to finish, their communication was excellent. They were honest, transparent, and took the time to answer every question I had. They walked me through the pros and cons of each option without any pressure and even guided me through the rebate process, which made everything much easier. What really stood out was their commitment to customer service. The installer stayed until 9:00 PM to make sure everything was working properly so we wouldn't have to spend the night without hot water. He absolutely didn't have to do that, but it showed how much he genuinely cared about doing the job right. When the work was finished, he cleaned everything up so well that you wouldn't have known a major project had taken place in my garage. If you're looking for a company that's honest, knowledgeable, and truly goes above and beyond for its customers, I can't recommend NurHVAC highly enough.”

“Nur HVAC recently installed a mini-split system in our SF condo; one in the living room, and one each in the two bedrooms. They installed the heat pump outside on the balcony. I was impressed with their work ethic and the way they kept our space clean during the installation. They cleaned up at the end of each work day and were very respectful and thoughtful of our home, our dog, and us. They communicate clearly and quickly; I would highly recommend them to install an AC system.”

“We replaced our 25-year old single phase gas furnace with a Mitsubishi HVAC heat pump this summer. Now that we’ve used it for both cooling and heating, I’d like to give the team at Nur a five-star rating for their clean, smooth installation. Communication was great and they were thoughtful about system design so that we don’t have exterior conduits. We are so happy with the operation of the system for heating: it is quiet and so much more effective than our old furnace. We can highly recommend Nur.”
