What MERV rating do I need?
It depends on your goals and equipment. MERV 8-11 handles dust and pollen; MERV 13-16 captures fine particles, smoke and bacteria-sized particles. Higher isn't automatically better - too restrictive a filter can starve your system, so we match the rating to your HVAC.
Will a high-MERV filter hurt my HVAC system?
It can if it's too restrictive for your equipment - that's the most common DIY mistake. We verify your system can handle the filtration level (or add a properly sized media cabinet) so you get clean air without damaging airflow.
Will better filtration help with wildfire smoke?
Yes. Higher-MERV media (13-16) captures much of the fine particulate in wildfire smoke. We can recommend the right level and a properly sized setup for smoke season on the Peninsula.

“Our 25+ years old gas furnace ran into issues and we could have just replaced the part and limped along for a while. We decided to do a like-for-like replacement...we got a quote (I won't mention the name of the vendor) and got a quote for a Bryant a/c/ gas furnace (lower than the Carrier a/c that we had) and the quote was pretty high ~ $25K and NO REBATES (this person did not even offer us the option of a heat pump). Our son suggested going to Yelp to get a project quote given we were spending so much money - from the 8 companies we talked to we zeroed in on Irbis and NUR and both companies were solid. Our main reason for going with NUR were the following : 1) With NUR we dealt directly with the Owner not a sales team : David - he is a no-nonsense, straight shooter who is extremely knowledgeable about all things HVAC. 2) Offered the right spec and quality of machine - He told us we should go with the Heat Pump (replace gas furnace) given we had solar and he offered us the complex split zoning for our single family house. Upgraded our carrier a/c to a Mitsubishi Heat Pump (see picture) 3) Reasonable Quote, High Quality work - He offered us an extremely reasonable quote for a high end heat pump, his technicians were top notch. Igor and Mikhail were brilliant - they spent a week at our place and were so polite, skilled and unobtrusive. They cleaned up after themselves every single day that they came in. 4) Helped me get the $3500 rebate from Peninsula Clean Energy 5) After install customer service is brilliant. I am doing this review after a month but these guys are beyond amazing when it comes to responsiveness to any questions or concerns. If I do any replacement of my HVAC and water heaters in the future - I will not look beyond NUR - they have my business for life”

“NUR HVAC just completed installation of a Mitsubishi heat pump system in my San Francisco home, replacing a 38-year-old Lennox gas furnace. I couldn't be more pleased with the quality of the work and the professionalism shown during the process. In particular, I wanted to commend Artur and Vladimir, the NUR technicians who did the beautiful install. Both guys were extremely polite and respectful, for example, putting on shoe covers whenever they entered the house. Artur was also very fastidious in running the ancillary electrical feeds to my main service panel. What a neat job! Fedor, who came to do the initial assessment, was a great resource and answered all my questions regarding scheduling, warranty, maintenance, etc. He offered several options during the bidding process without any pressure to come to a quick decision or attempts at "upselling." In the end, their quote was very competitive, and fair given the quality of the work and the final product. Being a Mitsubishi Diamond Contractor, NUR was able to offer a 12-year warranty on parts and labor. The bottom line is NUR is a top-quality outfit and it was easy to see that they take great pride in their work and genuinely care about their customers. NUR may be the best contractor I've ever used. “Adlan did a great job repairing my 20-year-old heating unit under my house. He had to crawl about 10 yards under the crawl space to get to the unit and had to work in cramped conditions. He also re-opened some ducts that had become closed over the years and also came back the next day to replace some rusted out ductwork that had been corroded by the ocean air. The heating system had been neglected for 20 years, and was long overdue. Everything works again and the air pressure in my back room registers actually has flow for the first time in many years. Great job and the price was quite reasonable. I will be calling NUR HVAC back regularly to make sure my heater never gets to that state again.”

I was impressed by their initial on-site inspection: the representative noticed that the new air handler would be wider than the existing one, which would require that our water heater be moved several inches for clearance. No other company noticed that. Overall, communication was excellent. They answered all questions and provided the city work permit application number so I could track approval process with the city. Work went smoothly and was finished in a few days, much sooner than what I had anticipated. Very good experience, would recommend to anyone.”

“Our old A/C unit went out (dramatically spewing coolant everywhere) in the middle of summer. We contacted Nur HVAC and got them to come take a look at the situation. They recommended replacing our old furnace with a new heat pump along with the new A/C unit. It took a few weeks for a permit, but then they scheduled the job promptly. It was very labor intensive...removing the old equipment, building a new platform with plywood, installing everything. It took 3 full days, but they did an excellent job and cleaned everything up completely when they were finished. The system looks and works so much better now. Workers were polite and respectful.
