Above-Ceiling Filter Installation for Two Systems in Millbrae
This preventive maintenance in Millbrae was a quick one, but it matters more than people think. The home has two HVAC systems tucked above the ceiling, and both needed fresh filters to keep air moving the way it should. Our tech Adlan handled both systems in about two hours, working through tight, dark spaces to get to each filter slot.
Above-ceiling systems are common in this part of the Peninsula, and they come with their own quirks. You can’t just glance at the filter from the hallway — you need a ladder, a flashlight, and a little patience to reach the slot, check the size stamped on the cabinet, and slide the new filter in the right direction. On this visit we did that for both units, back to back.

Why regular filter changes matter for above-ceiling units
When filters sit in hard-to-reach spots like this, they get forgotten more easily than a wall-mounted return. A clogged filter restricts airflow across the coil, makes the blower work harder, and over time that strain shows up as higher bills or a system that struggles to keep rooms comfortable. For a home running two separate systems, staying on top of both filters is the simplest way to protect the equipment without touching anything more expensive.

What we did on this visit
- Located and accessed both above-ceiling filter slots
- Removed the old filters from each system
- Installed correctly sized new filters in both units
- Checked that each filter seated properly in its track
This is actually a returning customer for us — we’ve done filter work at this same Millbrae property a few times before, including a visit where we also reattached a section of supply ductwork. It’s the kind of relationship we like: a homeowner who keeps up with maintenance instead of waiting for a breakdown, and a system that keeps running quietly because of it.

Both filters were dated at install so the next change is easy to track. If your home has hard-to-reach HVAC equipment and it’s been a while since anyone checked the filters, it’s worth a look before the next heat wave puts extra strain on the system. We cover routine filter service as part of our broader air filtration work across the area.

Small visits like this one don’t take long, but they add up to fewer surprises down the road — which is really the whole point.

“I called NUR HVAC via online recommendation for a gas furnace issue (failing to start/ignite) and received an immediate attention from David (the owner) directly. David came to my house to diagnose the problem on the same day which is very important to us. David is technically proficient and immediately identified the problem that the gas furnace is not electrically connected due to an electrical panel upgrade project earlier this year. What's impressed me more is David's customer service-oriented attitude. David went straight to the panel and identified the right switch to connect the heater and even labeled the switch (a sign of his professionalism). David put everything back tightly/neatly and even changed the air filter for me. David charged fairly (probably undercharged for the quality of his work). My wife and I are very pleased with David (NUR HVAC) and we will refer it to our friends for future heating and refrigeration projects.”

“I had such a great experience with Adlan from NUR HVAC. My furnace stopped working and he came out quickly, diagnosed the issue right away, and replaced the capacitor on the spot. He was incredibly knowledgeable and walked me through what was happening so I actually understood my options. Super friendly, patient, and kind, and never pushy. He had everything fixed, maintained and running smoothly in about 20 minutes. Really top-notch service!”

“David did a great job troubleshooting a mysterious issue with a circuit in my kitchen. He was thorough and diligent throughout and was in and out very quickly. Appreciate him not leaving until the area was cleaned up and he even gave me some tips on other areas in my kitchen. I can't thank him enough.”

“Islam was excellent! He was very professional, detailed, and thorough throughout the entire service. He explained what they were checking, made sure everything was cleaned and tuned properly, and left me confident that my system is running at its best. Great experience and highly recommend to anyone looking for reliable HVAC service!”
“Wow! So fast. Figured out the problem immediately.”
“My experience was 10 out of 10. 100% professional , couteous and highly slilled. I would recommend Nur HVAC to everyone willing to listen.”
“I am extremely pleased with my new Mitsubishi heat pump installed by Nur HVAC. Everyone in California should use a heat pump due to the high cost of electricity, and Nur HVAC should be your installer. My installation was performed in two parts: the upstairs in Mar 2025, then downstairs in May 2026. I commend Nur HVAC for their patience during this protracted and difficult installation. After an initial assessment to determine my needs, the team arrived to plan the installation of the upstairs hardware. They asked many questions to figure it out. It only took 5 days for my on-site representatives Konstantin and Maxim to finish the work, which I felt was clean and neat; the electrical, refrigerant, and condensate lines blended into the existing arrangement seamlessly. By the end of day 5, I had hot and cold air at the touch of a button. About a year later, my remodeling had progressed enough for the installation of the downstairs units. Sadly, other contractors inadvertently cut the 220V supply line to the 2nd floor units. And while they meant well, these other contractors totally messed up the 220V supply line for the 1st floor units, running it to the 2nd floor breaker box instead! Maxim and Konstantin went above and beyond the call of duty, doing jobs that weren't theirs. They re-routed the 1st floor electrical line to the 1st floor breaker box, and got everything working. They were quick to suggest best placement of the indoor units. Additionally, they figured out a far better arrangement of the outdoor unit and refrigerant lines. The installation was more concealed and neat afterwards.”
“This is the second project I’ve done with this team, and there’s a reason I keep coming back: Trust. When my water heater went out, Fedor showed up the same day to walk me through my options. I have a tendency to "over-buy," and I was actually leaning toward an expensive heat pump model. Instead of just taking the bigger check, Fedor was honest with me—he explained that the ROI on that specific unit wouldn’t be recovered in my lifetime given complex electrical work required. Once we picked the right system for my actual needs, he had a crew at my house within two days to finish the install. They were professional, clean, and efficient. It’s hard to find an HVAC company that values integrity as much as they do. They’ve earned a customer for life!”
“Nur HVAC recently installed a mini-split system in our SF condo; one in the living room, and one each in the two bedrooms. They installed the heat pump outside on the balcony. I was impressed with their work ethic and the way they kept our space clean during the installation. They cleaned up at the end of each work day and were very respectful and thoughtful of our home, our dog, and us. They communicate clearly and quickly; I would highly recommend them to install an AC system.”
“After 18 years our Air Conditioning System failed. We, of course, called Nur HVAC and were glad to see Islam again. He rapidly diagnosed that the AC compressor failed and had to be replaced. However, the AC system was so old that the compressor only had a 1 year warranty and the refrigerant in use 18 years ago is only available for legacy repairs (This is to protect the Ozone layer). We could have replaced the AC system, but the heating system was equally old and likely to fail. The cost to move to a full all electric HVAC system was a few dollars more than just replacing the AC system and it would eliminate our use of gas for heating and take advantage of the recently installed Solar Panels. So the house has a new fully electric HVAC system installed by Nur HVAC. Islam came and took the measurements so the system could be ordered and priced. Soon Alex and the installation team arrived to install the system. The quality of the installation and the care Alex and team took during the custom wiring, new refrigerant lines, new moisture drains, new thermostats, system setup and calibration was outstanding. Alex made sure that the air flow for both heating and cooling was measured and far better than the previous systems. Alex made sure to keep us informed as progress was being made and they managed to keep the house clean during the install. Again Nur HVAC exceeded expectations with a very high quality install at a fair price. A project of this size had a few bumps but this appeared to have been done to provide a quality install with attention to detail. This company has superb knowledgeable professionals working for it from service to installation. I highly recommend Nur HVAC.”
“We used Nur HVAC to replace gas furnace with a heat pump inverter, replace the aging duct work and gas water heater with a heat pump water heater, all in the same contract. Our project manager, Arthur was on-time for the scoping appointment. He took time to understand our needs, investigated the attic, ducts and all the existing equipment, before making any recommendations. He designed the optimal system for our house to be cost effective, provide highest comfort and be energy efficient. He was not pushy and was upfront about the ballpark estimates and timeline. He also walked us thru the various rebates that are available for the replacements from local utilities. Arthur’s quote was very competitive, in fact better than those quoted to us by Costco referred contractors. Nur’s installation crew - Eldar, Bhakridin, were very professional and thorough. They didn’t rush the job and left the job site clean and clutter free each day. They accommodated our requests for placing the electrical wires and conduits so they are not in the way. All the equipment both indoor and outdoor were cleanly laid out, secured and wiped down before hand off. Always smiling and respectful, one of the best installation crew we have had. As a white glove contractor they took care of all the permitting, inspection paperwork w/ the city, all the paper work for us to receive the rebates. They even completed the warranty registration with the manufacturers for all the equipment! We would highly recommend Arthur and Nur HVAC to anyone in the Bay Area needing heating and cooling solutions. We would definitely be going back to them ourselves when the need arises.”
