This San Jose home had an older Carrier outdoor unit sitting along the side of the house, and the owners were ready for one system that handles both heating and cooling. We replaced it with a 3-ton Carrier heat pump and a matching air handler in the attic, and we redid the electrical for the whole system while we were at it. Our two-person crew spent about nine hours on site to get everything in and running.

The photo above is from our estimate visit. The old outdoor unit sat next to the downspout, with the wiring coming off the wall beside it. We kept that location because it works well for the line set route and for airflow, so the new unit went right where the old one was.

The new Carrier heat pump is bolted down to its pad with brackets at each corner, so it stays level and does not walk with vibration over the years.
Because this was a full electrical job, the outdoor unit got a new disconnect with the wiring run in conduit along the wall. We also added a surge protective device, which helps shield the heat pump’s electronics from power spikes.
Inside: a new air handler and ductwork in the attic
Up in the attic we set the new air handler on a drain pan and connected it to an insulated supply plenum. From there we ran new ductwork: eight supply vents and one return. The plenum and the flex ducts are hung on metal straps so nothing sags or rests on the attic floor.
The refrigerant line set is insulated and strapped along the rafters, and the condensate drain is run in PVC across the attic. Tidy routing like this matters later, because anyone servicing the system can see where everything goes at a glance.

“We used Nur HVAC to replace gas furnace with a heat pump inverter, replace the aging duct work and gas water heater with a heat pump water heater, all in the same contract. Our project manager, Arthur was on-time for the scoping appointment. He took time to understand our needs, investigated the attic, ducts and all the existing equipment, before making any recommendations. He designed the optimal system for our house to be cost effective, provide highest comfort and be energy efficient. He was not pushy and was upfront about the ballpark estimates and timeline. He also walked us thru the various rebates that are available for the replacements from local utilities. “We worked with the fine folks at Nur HVAC to install 2 mini-splits and an outdoor unit earlier this year. It was a nice experience from start to finish. They were very conscious of keeping the mess to a minimum and cleaning up after themselves. The technician who came by to do the estimate, Adlan, was very nice and explained everything clearly. He even repaired a blown fuse at no charge. The installation team, which included David, Eldar, and Alex, worked fast, but efficiently. They finished the installation that same day despite the setbacks like figuring out how to run the power back to the panel (our home has a weird configuration). They came back another time to take care of some inspection-specific requirements, but no issues with the final inspection. The company was also open to helping provide documentation for energy rebates. The only trouble we had was the slight language barrier, which made communication difficult sometimes. We had them provide two quotes, including replacing our existing heater, and the price of everything was very competitive with the other quotes we received. Overall, I felt they were reliable and met my expectations. I'd be happy to call them back for any HVAC needs I have in the future”
