In South San Francisco, our crew completed a full Mitsubishi 2.5-ton heat pump installation, replacing an aging gas furnace with an all-electric heat pump system built around the Mitsubishi PUZ-AH30NL outdoor condenser and a matched PVA-AA30NL ducted air handler set in the attic. The heat pump installation also brought new ductwork, a complete electrical upgrade, and smart air-quality controls, giving the home efficient, all-electric comfort that passed HERS testing.
Removing the old system and setting the new heat pump
We started by removing and disposing of the old heater, then capped off the unused gas line with a proper gas cap since the home was moving to an all-electric heat pump. From there we set a new concrete pad for the outdoor unit, ran new refrigerant lines and a new communication electrical line between the indoor and outdoor equipment, and installed a new plastic line cover to keep everything protected and tidy along the wall.

Mitsubishi heat pump equipment and controls
The outdoor PUZ-AH30NL heat pump and indoor PVA-AA30NL air handler were both installed to building standards. The outdoor unit uses an inverter-driven compressor for precise capacity, Blue Fin coating and seacoast protection to resist corrosion in our coastal air, and delivers low ambient cooling down to 0°F. We also installed a Mitsubishi MHK2 thermostat and a Mitsubishi PAC-WHS01WF-E wifi interface so the homeowner can manage the system remotely.
New ductwork built to code
Since this heat pump installation also touched the distribution side, we removed and disposed of the old ductwork and installed a new system sized for the home: nine vents and two returns using new flexible supply and return ducts, each vent fitted with an air volume damper. We finished with a full airflow adjustment so every room gets balanced heating and cooling from the new equipment.
Surge protection and smart air quality
To protect the new electrical components, we added a Type 1 surge protective device with dual diagnostic LEDs and an audible alarm. We also installed a smart air cleaning system pairing an Amazon Smart Air Quality Monitor with an April Air air purifier and the smart thermostat, so the homeowner can track particulate matter, VOCs, carbon monoxide, humidity, and temperature, and get notified if air quality changes.
