How to prep your mini-split system for summer

Summer is around the corner, which makes it the perfect time to prep your mini-split system for the hot days ahead. A little maintenance now keeps the system running efficiently all season and helps it cool your home without working harder than it needs to.

Here’s a simple checklist to get your mini-split ready before the heat arrives.

Ready for reliable comfort?

Book your San Mateo County HVAC service today - fast, honest, guaranteed.

How to prep your mini-split for summer

  • Clean or replace the filters: dirty filters restrict airflow and make the system work harder, so clean or swap them to protect airflow and indoor air quality.
  • Clear the outdoor unit: check for leaves, branches, and other debris that built up over winter, and remove anything blocking proper airflow and ventilation.
  • Wipe down the indoor unit: dust and dirt collect inside and hinder performance, so clean the unit and make sure nothing is blocking the airflow.
  • Test the thermostat: switch it to cooling mode, confirm it responds correctly, and set a temperature that’s comfortable for warmer weather.
  • Schedule professional maintenance: before the peak of summer, have a technician inspect the system thoroughly, catch any potential issues, and confirm it’s running efficiently.

Following these steps helps ensure your mini-split is ready to keep you cool and comfortable all summer long. If you’d rather leave the tune-up to a pro, Nur HVAC can inspect, clean, and fully test the system so it’s ready for the season ahead.

Not sure your mini-split is ready?

If your mini-split struggled at the end of last season, short-cycled, or just did not cool the way it used to, it is worth having it looked at before the first heat wave. Our team handles ductless mini-split repair and maintenance across the Bay Area, and a quick visit now is far easier than an emergency call on the hottest day of the year. Reach out to Nur HVAC and we will make sure your system is ready for summer. Simple habits during the season help too: keep the filters clean, glance at the outdoor unit after windy days, and pay attention to any new noises or weaker airflow, since small changes are usually the first hint that something needs attention.

“Amazing, 10/10 experience with David, Sergei, and the rest of the NUR team. They completely overhauled my HVAC -- installed two dual-fuel furnace/heat pumps, two ductless mini split units, and completely re-did ductwork. The entire process was seamless from start to finish, including David coming to my house several times to walk me through different options before I had committed anything. There was no upsell, pressure, or anything like that - just honest/professional service and technical suggestions. The installation itself was smooth, taking less time than originally estimated with attention to detail. These guy do not cut corners! Anyway, take the time to speak with a handful of HVAC companies but, in the end, you will not find a better, more thoughtful, thorough, and professional crew than NUR. All done at a very fair price (compared to other companies).”

“We were looking to replace our 3 wall heaters (installed by the previous owner) with heat pump, and got three quotes from the three nearby HVAC services with the highest Yelp ratings: 1. Nur HVAC: Provided multiple options with both Mitsubishi and Daikin. The Mitsubishi option is more expensive. Provided some information regarding rebates & tax credits but not comprehensive. 2. IRBIS HVAC: Also multiple options but with Carrier. Slightly more expensive than Nur's Mitsubishi option. They provided very comprehensive information on all the available rebates & tax credits, which I appreciate a lot. 3. EM Energy & Air: Their quote is with Daikin, but is more expensive than Nur since they charge extra for removing existing wall heaters. They didn't provide any rebates & tax credits information. After doing some research on brands (Mitsubishi vs Daikin vs Carrier), it seems the internet believes Mitsubishi's system is the best among the three. Also given Nur's reasonable pricing, we decided to go with Nur's Mitsubishi mini-split option with 3 wall mount units. The installation was smooth; it took about 3.5 days. They were friendly, courteous, and paid attention to details, and always did a thorough clean-up at the end of the day. On the last day, Artur walked me through the system and we did the testing together. Overall it was a great experience and I would highly recommend them to others.”

“It's a positive 5 stars experience working with David, Igor, and Mikael 2 months ago. Taking advantage of all the rebate, we decided to upgrade the 70 years old floor furnace with Mitsubishi ductless mini split HVAC. David was very responsive and courteous. The pricing was the best out of 3 bids with the same configuration. The installation was done by Igor and Mikael; it finished in 4.5 days with minor hiccups, and they took care of it efficiently. We appreciate their workmanship, the above and beyond expertise & knowledge shown throughout the process. The result passed the inspection on the same day. Submitting the rebate was easy, because David and Nur HVAC helped us by providing guidance and all necessary pictures. We received the check from Peninsula Clean Energy 5 weeks after the installation. In the meantime they are working on getting us another rebate from Tech Clean Contractors. The best part is to enjoy high efficiency heating during this winter months. Thanks to Nur HVAC!!”

We highly recommend them to anyone looking for a dependable professional who truly stands behind its work!”

“NUR HVAC replaced our old furnace heating system with a heat pump and mini-split heating/AC units. David was very responsive and came by to give a quote within a few days. He answered our many questions, made recommendations on where to locate the new units, and helped prepare the paperwork for our HOA approval. We compared quotes with several neighbors who had also recently installed heat pumps and the quote was lower than the others. The installation team was very friendly and professional, using shoe covers and cleaning up after themselves every day. They stayed later than we expected to wrap up work in the evenings too. I caught COVID over a weekend during the work and they were very flexible in rescheduling for a couple weeks later. The only minor issue was that they didn't speak much English, but we were able to use Google translate, and David was always available if we needed to speak with him. Overall we had a great experience with them. Our system is fully functional now and we'd recommend NUR HVAC to others due to how responsive, professional, and reasonably priced they are.”

“Last month, we contracted NUR HVAC to install three units of Mitsubishi ductless AC units to our house. The sales contact Artur was very professional, always addressed our questions very quickly and clearly. Their office support Regina was proactive and timely communicated important information for our awareness ahead of time. Their two technicians Maxim and Alksei have done done an excellent job to install the units and relevant pipes. We are very satisfied with the quality of Nur HAVC's work, their competitive price and excellent customer services, and definitely recommend this company for others who are seeking professionals to do the similar service. “Our old A/C unit went out (dramatically spewing coolant everywhere) in the middle of summer. We contacted Nur HVAC and got them to come take a look at the situation. They recommended replacing our old furnace with a new heat pump along with the new A/C unit. It took a few weeks for a permit, but then they scheduled the job promptly. It was very labor intensive...removing the old equipment, building a new platform with plywood, installing everything. It took 3 full days, but they did an excellent job and cleaned everything up completely when they were finished. The system looks and works so much better now. Workers were polite and respectful. Would definitely recommend.”

“All their five star reviews are true. I had a great experience with Nur, from the day they came over for a quote, to the day of the City inspection. They even registered the warranty for me, without even having to ask. Shalai and his partner, who installed the mini-split ductless unit, were extraordinarily neat, punctual and friendly. You could tell they love their craft. Artur who came for the estimate, was knowledgeable and did a clear and thorough contract. Shomurod who came to meet the City inspector was also super professional. (By the way, the electric inspector commented TWICE on how clean the connections were.) Communication at every stage was perfect, and I'm super pleased with them.”

“We worked with the fine folks at Nur HVAC to install 2 mini-splits and an outdoor unit earlier this year. It was a nice experience from start to finish. They were very conscious of keeping the mess to a minimum and cleaning up after themselves. The technician who came by to do the estimate, Adlan, was very nice and explained everything clearly. He even repaired a blown fuse at no charge. The installation team, which included David, Eldar, and Alex, worked fast, but efficiently. They finished the installation that same day despite the setbacks like figuring out how to run the power back to the panel (our home has a weird configuration). They came back another time to take care of some inspection-specific requirements, but no issues with the final inspection. The company was also open to helping provide documentation for energy rebates. The only trouble we had was the slight language barrier, which made communication difficult sometimes. We had them provide two quotes, including replacing our existing heater, and the price of everything was very competitive with the other quotes we received. Overall, I felt they were reliable and met my expectations. I'd be happy to call them back for any HVAC needs I have in the future”

“Nur HVAC recently installed a mini-split system in our SF condo; one in the living room, and one each in the two bedrooms. They installed the heat pump outside on the balcony. I was impressed with their work ethic and the way they kept our space clean during the installation. They cleaned up at the end of each work day and were very respectful and thoughtful of our home, our dog, and us. They communicate clearly and quickly; I would highly recommend them to install an AC system.”

“Loved my technician. Very honest. He replaced my gas heater and AC unit. Turned out great. Gas furnace wont be available after next year. So this should last another 25 years before I have to upgrade my panel to support a heat pump product. Dodged a bullet. I recommend this company. Susan Lacy Municipal Construction Inspector”

“I am extremely pleased with my new Mitsubishi heat pump installed by Nur HVAC. Everyone in California should use a heat pump due to the high cost of electricity, and Nur HVAC should be your installer. My installation was performed in two parts: the upstairs in Mar 2025, then downstairs in May 2026. I commend Nur HVAC for their patience during this protracted and difficult installation. After an initial assessment to determine my needs, the team arrived to plan the installation of the upstairs hardware. They asked many questions to figure it out. It only took 5 days for my on-site representatives Konstantin and Maxim to finish the work, which I felt was clean and neat; the electrical, refrigerant, and condensate lines blended into the existing arrangement seamlessly. By the end of day 5, I had hot and cold air at the touch of a button. About a year later, my remodeling had progressed enough for the installation of the downstairs units. Sadly, other contractors inadvertently cut the 220V supply line to the 2nd floor units. And while they meant well, these other contractors totally messed up the 220V supply line for the 1st floor units, running it to the 2nd floor breaker box instead! Maxim and Konstantin went above and beyond the call of duty, doing jobs that weren't theirs. They re-routed the 1st floor electrical line to the 1st floor breaker box, and got everything working. They were quick to suggest best placement of the indoor units. Additionally, they figured out a far better arrangement of the outdoor unit and refrigerant lines. The installation was more concealed and neat afterwards.”
